WELCOME TO GRAYTUNES

D'Arcy White

D'Arcy's compositional style could be described as minimalistic serialism. Almost all of his compositions are a consequence of mathematical/polyrhythmic/polymetric procedures containing an abundance of palindromes. Once a suitable "formulae" is conceived, the tune all but writes itself. Although detailed instrumentation is suggested, most compositions can be "orchestrated" by the performer(s) so long as the following guidelines are employed:
  1. All pitches/instruments appearing on the stave should be related in regards to pitch sequence. For instance, a sound notated on the first staff line should be lower in pitch than a sound notated on the first staff space.
  2. The lower the pitch, the longer the duration.
